The ESASP Journal – Scientific Journal of the School of Advocacy of OAB/SP invites authors to submit manuscripts (articles, essays, and reviews) on a continuous submission basis. Submissions must be original, unpublished, and must not be under simultaneous review by another journal.

For the Articles and Dossier sections, it is recommended that at least one of the authors holds a PhD degree or is currently a doctoral candidate. For the Review and Interview sections, it is recommended that at least one of the authors holds a Specialist degree.

1. Peer Review Process

The journal adopts a double-blind peer review system, ensuring impartiality, anonymity, and scientific rigor.

The editorial workflow comprises the following stages:

  1. Initial screening (Desk Review): the Editor-in-Chief or Associate Editor conducts a preliminary assessment to verify the manuscript’s alignment with the journal’s scope, compliance with editorial standards, and originality.

  2. External peer review: manuscripts approved in the initial screening are sent to at least two external ad hoc reviewers, specialists in the relevant field, without identification of authorship.

  3. Reviews and editorial decision: based on the reviewers’ reports, the decision may be:
    • Acceptance without revisions
    • Acceptance with mandatory revisions
    • Resubmission for further review
    • Rejection

In cases of conflicting reviews, an additional review may be requested.

Reviewers must declare the absence of conflicts of interest and maintain confidentiality regarding the manuscript content.

Editorial decisions are based exclusively on scientific quality, academic relevance, and adherence to the journal’s scope.

2. Associated Policies

2.1. Open Access
The journal adopts an immediate open access model, with content licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0).

2.2. No Fees
No submission or publication fees (APCs) are charged.

2.3. Copyright
Authors retain full copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication, without restrictions on self-archiving, in accordance with the journal’s deposit policy.

2.4. Editorial Independence
The ESASP Journal ensures full editorial independence in its decisions. Manuscript evaluation and publication are conducted exclusively based on academic, scientific, and ethical criteria, without institutional, administrative, political, or financial interference.

The journal’s institutional affiliation with the School of Advocacy of OAB/SP does not influence editorial decisions. Authors affiliated with the institution are subject to the same double-blind peer review process as all other submissions.

2.5. Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)

 

In accordance with the Portaria CNPq nº 2.664/2026, the use of generative AI tools must be declared in the manuscript, indicating the tool used and its specific purpose. The use of AI is permitted for supporting writing, language revision, translation, and text organization, provided there is human supervision and critical review by the authors. The use of AI to generate or manipulate data, results, or evidence is not permitted, nor is the production of analyses without human verification. The use of AI as an author or co-author is also prohibited, as is plagiarism, including automated paraphrasing. Authors are fully responsible for the submitted content, including its accuracy, originality, and integrity.

3. Manuscript Preparation

Technical and formal compliance is a mandatory prerequisite for manuscript admission and the initiation of the peer-review process.

3.1. Format, Length, and General Formatting

  • File Format: Manuscripts must be submitted exclusively in editable .docx format (Microsoft Word).

  • Applicable Standards: The text must strictly adhere to ABNT guidelines, specifically NBR 6022 (articles in technical and/or scientific periodical publications), NBR 10520 (citations), and NBR 6023 (references).

  • Length: Manuscripts must contain between 30,000 and 80,000 characters with spaces, a count that mandatorily includes all pre-textual, textual, and post-textual elements (titles, abstracts, footnotes, tables, charts, and references).

  • Graphic Formatting:

    • Font: Arial or Times New Roman, size 12 for the body text; size 10 for block quotes (long direct quotes) and footnotes.

    • Line Spacing: 1.5 line spacing in the main text; single spacing for long direct quotes, footnotes, and abstracts.

    • Margins and Paragraphs: Margins set to 3 cm (top, bottom, left, and right).

    • Sections: Section and subsection headings must use progressive Arabic numeral numbering (e.g., 1., 2., 2.1.), clearly highlighted in bold.

3.2. Pre-textual Elements and Mandatory Trilingual Requirement

In accordance with the journal’s editorial standards, the manuscript must mandatorily include the following elements in three official languages (Portuguese, English, and Spanish):

  1. Article Title: Clear, precise, and translated into English and Spanish.

  2. Abstract / Resumo / Resumen: Between 150 and 250 words each, synthesizing the objective, methodology, problem statement, and core conclusions of the study.

  3. Keywords / Palavras-chave / Palabras clave: 3 to 5 representative terms of the article's content in each of the three languages, separated by semicolons and ending with a period.

3.3. Citation System and Footnotes

  • Author-Date System: Bibliographic citations in the body text must strictly follow the author-date system (ABNT NBR 10520:2023), indicating (SURNAME, year) for indirect citations and (SURNAME, year, p. X) for direct citations.

  • Direct Quotes: Direct quotes exceeding three lines must be placed in a separate paragraph, indented 4 cm from the left margin, in font size 10, without quotation marks. Direct quotes up to three lines remain within the text body, enclosed in double quotation marks.

  • Footnotes: Permitted exclusively for explanatory, conceptual, or authorial/methodological qualification purposes. The use of footnotes for bibliographic references (numerical system) is strictly prohibited.

3.4. Persistent Identifiers (PIDs)

  • ORCID: Providing an ORCID iD (orcid.org) is mandatory for all co-authors of the manuscript.

  • ROR (Institutional Affiliation): Authors must use the integrated ROR search tool in the OJS system during submission. In the “Institution/Affiliation” field, authors must select the official name of their institution from the standardized list (ror.org/search).

3.5. Anonymization for Double-Blind Peer Review

To ensure the integrity of the double-blind review process:

  • The .docx file must not contain authors' names, short biographies, institutional affiliations, or acknowledgments within the body text or headers.

  • File metadata must be completely removed prior to submission (File Properties -> Inspect Document -> Remove Document Properties and Personal Information).

  • Note: Author details, academic degrees, and affiliations will be entered into the OJS system solely in the submission metadata fields and integrated into the final publication text only upon formal acceptance.

3.6. Digital Accessibility

All visual and non-textual elements (tables, charts, graphs, and images) must be inserted in editable or high-resolution formats and mandatorily accompanied by descriptive Alternative Text (Alt Text) embedded within the element properties of the original file.

3.7. Bibliographic References

At the end of the text, the list of references must be presented in alphabetical order by the first author’s surname, single-spaced, left-aligned, and separated by a single space, formatted strictly according to ABNT NBR 6023:2018. Including access links or DOIs for all electronic sources cited is highly recommended.

4. Submission Checklist

The following items must be confirmed during submission:

5. System Registration Instructions

Authors must register before submitting a manuscript.

Username rules:

  • lowercase letters only

  • numbers allowed

  • underscore (_) and hyphen (-) allowed

  • no spaces, accents, or special characters

  • cannot begin or end with _ or -

Additional instructions:

Role Selection: Authors must select the role “Author” during registration; otherwise, submission will not be possible.

Email: A valid and unique email address is required. Authors should check their spam folder for confirmation.

ORCID Integration: It is strongly recommended to connect ORCID during registration to facilitate data integration.
