Keywords:
Court Costs, Legislative CompetenceAbstract
This article analyzes the STF judgment of ADI 7,553, regarding the constitutionality of Tocantins State Law 4,240/2023 on court costs. The STF reaffirmed the Federal Union's exclusive competence to legislate on civil procedure and legal aid, declaring state rules that innovated on these topics unconstitutional. Furthermore, it invalidated the disproportionate increase in the maximum limit of court fees, citing a violation of the principle of proportionality and the right of access to justice
